Flickwick’s Diary

Woah, it’s been a busy week here at Barton Field Farm EC.

It all started on Sunday when someone called ‘Andrew Gould’ came to visit. I’m not really sure who he is, but apparently he was quite important as all the yard staff were running around on Sunday morning trying to make everywhere look perfect. This was a great opportunity for us cobs to be as messy as possible, so I assigned everyone a job for the morning. LC was in charge of escaping at every opportunity, Alf was told to do as many poos as possible and Pablo had to be as awkward as he could (not hard for him). Everyone loved Andrew Gould and his posh horses, but I hope they don’t get too many ideas about doing things like ‘half pass’ and ‘flying changes’ in my lessons. I bet I can have a go at leaping sideways from the centre line to the fence, maybe I’ll get Ellie to try it with me next time she’s leading.

On Wednesday, it was Pony Day. I’m always a bit suspicious when the car park begins to fill up before 10am and children piling out from cars, but Pablo did remind me that it was nearly Easter so it was to be expected. The ‘gingers’ as we call them are always a bit smug on Pony Day, as they think they’ll get an easy day of it but we think they miss out on all the fun! We always get the scraps from all the kid’s lunchboxes so it makes up for trying really hard not to stand on any little toes. I’m a big fan of anything sweet but LC likes to try all the different varieties of crisps so we tend to share lunchbox leftovers. All the kids behaved themselves and we were quite good too, so Natalie was very pleased with us!

Thursday is snooze-and-eat day but we were woken up by horse trailers rattling and banging everywhere. I popped into the office to put in a noise complaint about the disturbance to be told by Gemma that we were holding an unaffiliated dressage competition! I’m not sure what the obsession with dressage is at the moment, but I don’t mind so much as I can pretend I’m ‘too stiff’ and then get put on lead rein duties for a week. It was our first ever competition where people from ‘outside’ were invited so Lucky and I had an enjoyable morning putting our heads over into the outdoor school whilst people were warming up to put them off their moves.

That’s it for my first blog – remember I take payment in Polo’s and any fan mail can be left with Natalie.

Love,

Flitwick
